BBB
(2018)

video by Gibney DTI

BBB opens with a rape scene. Following the incident, the survivor navigates a room grounded by a kitchen knife, a red plastic bucket, 3 stalks of sugar cane, and a silver basin attached to a 50ft jute rope that loops overhead and trails across the floor.

BBB provides a simultaneous look at the brutal history of slavery in the Americas, the horror of ‘corrective rape’ of queer bodies, and the ongoing war against black and brown people. BBB entertains the idea of revenge and considers a formula for resistance ‘by any means necessary’.

Concept, design & performance by Fana Fraser

BBB was created in part in residence at the College of Staten Island through a 2017-18 CUNY Dance Initiative Artist Residency and with commissioning support from Gibney, with funds provided by the Howard Gilman Foundation.
